Lake District
Tucked away on the southern shores of Lake Llanquihue in Chile’s Lake District, the town of Puerto Varas is as pretty as they come. Streets lined with fragrant roses weave through the colonial architecture – a hark back to its German heritage – and the iconic red and white Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ Church stands strikingly in its midst. Yet more glorious than the town itself are the 360 degree views. The snow-capped Osorno Volcano and Calbuco Volcano rise into the piercingly blue sky, and the lake stretches into the horizon.
Puerto Varas welcomes visitors with open arms to stroll leisurely through the streets, experience its excellent food, and enjoy some of the finest beer in the country in its lively bars. Head out of town however, and the beauty of the Lake District stretches before you. A network of roads and ferry boats connect a landscape of turquoise lakes, rivers swarming with fat pink salmon, lakeside villages steeped in rural traditions, and the Alerce Andino National Park.
Allow Oyikil to create a two country itinerary and guests can experience one of the most legendary ways to cross the mighty Andes crossing from Puerto Varas to the Argentinian town of Bariloche by sailing the great lakes.
